Why Getting Fired Can Be The Best Thing That Has Ever Happened To You
Most of us have all lost a job at least once in our lifetime. Sometimes it can feel like a relief. Other times it can feel like death. When I lost a job for the first time in 2010, I was in shock and denial. ME? FIRED? I thought that would never happen to me. I just knew I was irreplaceable, but once that day came I was mad and depressed. I cried for days because I was a single mother with plenty of bills to pay. As I was crying one day, it hit me. A voice was in my head and told me, “Cleo it’s time”. My first reaction was, “WHAT? TIME FOR WHAT EXACTLY?” After thinking about it for several hours, I realized that it was time for me to make a change in my life. Time for me to try new things. Time for me to create more opportunities for myself. Time for me to do the things I wouldn’t have had the courage to do if I was still at that job.
Before I was fired, I was employed with that company for four years. I got comfortable. I stopped taking risks to move up to the next level. I thought being fired was the worst thing that ever happened to me. Now when I look back at that experience, I now know it was not a failure. It was an opportunity. An opportunity for me to do things differently. The opportunities and accomplishments that I have now, I know I wouldn’t have them if I wasn’t fired from that job. Sometimes we have to be pushed and forced into a position where we have to learn to take risks. Not just little risks, but huge scary risks.
If you have ever been fired from a job or think you might be fired, it’s not the end of your life. Turn your negative experience into a learning experience. This world is filled with so many opportunities and experiences, but you have to get out of your comfort zone to take advantage of them.
